Social Rights and Civil Rights

Social rights can be termed as the rights prepared by a group of people to uphold social order within a society. Civil rights are the rights held by an individual to obtain equal treatment in various settings including employment, education etc and based on certain lawfully protected characteristics. Civil rights are a set of rights and freedoms that defend individuals from unjustifiable action by government or any individuals or private organization.

Civil rights ensure ones honor and safety. It is the right of the people to be treated equally regardless of their religion, race, creed and gender. Many nations including US, regards civil rights as a law. The protection of Civil and Social rights is essential in order to uphold human dignity and secure human rights. The achievement of human rights has the potential to foster the development of the world.

Until the core of the 20th century, civil rights included the rights to make and implement contracts, right to own property and right to receive due process of law.

Today, civil rights can be termed as the development of all people irrespective of their religion, race, ethnic background and gender. The accomplishment of civil rights will ensure creation of an environment free of unfair discrimination and establishment of equality. The Civil Right Movement was a universal political movement striving for equality of every citizen before the law. The movement was a long and feeble process in many countries and most of the movements did not attain or completely attain their goals. The aim of Civil Rights Movement in USA was to ensure that all of its citizens have and enjoy equal rights. The aim of such movement was to secure equality for American blacks who were under slavery. The American blacks were deprived of their civil rights and hence the movement strived to secure status of equal citizenship for them. Black Americans were treated poorly and were allotted the worst jobs. This situation led to violation of their civil rights and therefore created a need to protect it. Social rights are the rights which ensure provision of education to every child. A social right protects individuals from vicious circle of poverty and also safeguards them from starvation.

The mission of Universal Declaration of Human Rights is to guarantee equality right to every citizen. It emphasizes on non-discrimination and equality before the law thereby securing civil rights.
