International Human Rights Law is a set of International Law designed to protect and promote human rights at the international, regional and domestic level. International Human Rights Law comprises of International treaties and Customary International law. There are nine vital international human rights treaties. These treaties aim to protect the rights of women and children, protection of social and cultural rights, prohibition of torture, prevention of racial discrimination etc.
International Human Rights Law deals with freedom of association, the right to vote and the right to assembly. There are certain universal human rights instruments which are universally desirable to foster the development of all nations. Universal human rights instruments are rights of women, rights of children, rights of senior citizens, right of self-determination, social progress, abolition of slavery and rights of migrants.
International Human Rights Law is a bunch of international rules promoting global welfare. At an international level, many organizations are facilitating cooperation in international law, economic progress, international security and protection of human rights. United Nations Organization is one such organization inspiring the culture of human rights and fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, gender, or religion. The significant responsibility of United Nations Human Rights Council is to investigate violations of human rights.
United Nations Security Council strives for maintaining international security and peace and has the power to investigate any circumstance threatening international peace. It advices procedure for peaceful resolution of a dispute. There are three major regional human rights instruments which are as follows:- The African Charter on Human and People’s Rights (1981), The American Declaration of the Rights and Duties of Man (1948) and The European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms ( 1950). The people of America enjoy human right protection from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. The goal of Inter-America Court of Human Rights is protection and promotion of human rights, preventing corruption, strengthening democracy and working for peace. As regards domestic application of human rights, if domestic law fails to provide a solution for human rights violations it may resort to regional or international level for instituting human rights.
