Creating law against hate due to religion in the UK...On September 11, 2001 a few people of the Muslim community suffered from attacks of religious hatred. The United Kingdom sketched actions for pursuing support to religious hatred as per the Anti-Terrorism, Crime, and Security Act 2001.As per the new anti-terror law the courts should treat religion similar to race at the time of dealing with terror related to religion. The UK introduced Anti-Terrorism, Crime, and Security Act in 2001 after 9/11 terror attacks on New York and Washington.
The idea of the act is to make stronger legislation in a many areas to make sure that the Government has the essential powers to defy the increased threat to the United Kingdom and to deal with the effects in neighborhood communities, including threats, attacks, and religious hatred.
"The measures mentioned in the bill, cover numerous points including efforts to sufficiently react to those who want to provoke racial and religious hatred or violence. The bill was enacted on 14th December, 2001."
- The Act extends the racially provoked offences of criminal damage, harassment, and assault to cover attacks provoked by religious enmity.
- It widened the provisions regarding provocation to racial hatred to wrap it.
- It contains cases where the abhorrence is directed against groups out of the country, and amplifies the maximum punishment for such offences from 2 to 7 years detention.
- An executor must use words such as,’ offensive, threatening or insulting words or behavior’ to be prosecuted for hatred.
- The Muslim community, which had been targeted in a series of attacks across the UK due to 9/11 terror attack, welcomed the Act.
- Conference on legislation to take care the violence has been launched, with detainment for criminal smash up increased from ten to fourteen years.
