Campaign to combat violence against women

The forum of the Council of Europe (CoE) Campaign to fight Violence against Women, as well as household Violence was conducted in Strasbourg on 10TH and 11TH June 2008. In this meeting, the Council of Europe Task Force to fight Violence against Women, as well as family fighting, exhibited its judgment of the effect of the Campaign in the CoE member nations and of the nationwide actions taken to avoid and fight violence against females. It also shown recommendations on future actions by the CoE to avoid and fight violence against females.

The 3 dimensional Campaigns, legislative body of the Committee of Ministers, the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe and the Parliamentary Assembly participated in the Conference, with representatives of all Council of Europe member States. Additionally, a lot of worldwide intergovernmental and NGO functioning in the area of violence against women were given invitation to be present at spectator capacity.
Violence against women, as well as domestic fighting, is the consequence of an inequality of control in civilization. This is the violation of human rights and the most important obstruction to overcoming inequality between women and men. In spite of optimistic developments in policies and practices, it still occurs in each CoE member nation each level of society.

The Campaign aims at increasing knowledge that violence against women is a violation of human rights. The campaign urges member nations to show political determination by giving sufficient resources to bring actual results in this area. This encourages the execution of effective actions at nationwide level, through legislation and nationwide action plans.
